Master Nine Hears My Thoughts

Premise

Gu Yang is a transmigrator who finds herself inside a modern urban underworld as an undercover agent. Her assignment places her beside Ye Xijiu, a mafia boss whose trust is hard to earn. The first real turn comes when Gu Yang takes a bullet for her, which convinces Ye Xijiu that she can be relied on.

The story then adds a supernatural twist. Ye Xijiu accidentally awakens a mind-reading power and begins to hear every thought in Gu Yang's heart. The secret Gu Yang has been hiding is suddenly exposed, and the relationship that started as a mission becomes something more complicated.

Characters

Gu Yang is resourceful and guarded, and her position as an undercover agent keeps her constantly calculating. Her transmigrator status gives her a sense of distance from the world she is working in. She is brave when it matters, and the bullet she takes is the moment that shifts Ye Xijiu's trust.

Ye Xijiu is the mafia boss with a hard public image. She is suspicious by habit, and the mind-reading power forces her to confront how little privacy she has left. Her vulnerability grows as she realizes how much she can hear.

The two clans have a century-old hatred between them. The feud is part of the backdrop that the leads must resolve.

Gang rivals and family members create the outside pressure on the couple, and the identity crises add to the tension.

Main arc

The early episodes establish the mission and the dangerous setting. Gu Yang must earn Ye Xijiu's trust without giving herself away, and the bullet she takes proves her loyalty. The mafia setting gives the show a constant undercurrent of threat.

The middle stretch brings the mind-reading power into play. Ye Xijiu hears Gu Yang's thoughts, and the relationship moves from cautious testing to sincere feeling. The couple faces gang conflicts, family feuds, and the strain of identity questions that could tear them apart.

The later episodes resolve the century-old feud between the clans. The leads stand together, and the story closes on the romance that grew from suspicion and secrets into trust.

Themes & tropes

The series combines the mafia and supernatural romance tropes with a transmigration premise. The mind-reading power is a clever device, because it removes the distance that usually keeps lovers guessing. Trust is the central theme, since both leads must decide whether to believe what they hear and what they are told.

The family feud adds a generational dimension. The century-old hatred between the clans gives the romance a larger social frame, and the leads' love becomes a way to end the conflict.

Why viewers watch

Viewers come for the sharp premise, which combines a dangerous mafia setting with a telepathic romance. The mind-reading angle creates a constant source of tension and humor, and the slow move from testing to devotion is satisfying to follow. With 92 episodes, the story has room to balance the gang plots with the couple's relationship. If you like a romance where the danger and the intimacy grow together, this series builds that dynamic carefully.
